Grandma Lee's Gravy (Pasta Sauce)

Grandma Lee's Gravy (Pasta Sauce)



  • 1 can of Plum tomatoes
  • 1 can of Tomato Puree (I like Sclafani tomatoes and you can get them here)
  • a bunch of fresh basil
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 1 tsp. of sugar
  • 3 tbls of butter
  • 1 lamb shank or homemade meatballs
  • 1 pasta pot
  • 1 oven pan

  1. In an oven pan add lamb shank, oil and garlic and cook on 400 degrees in the oven.  Cook until the meat is brown.
  2. In a blender, blend Plum tomatoes until smooth.  Pour the Plum tomatoes, tomato puree, basil, butter and sugar into a large pasta pot.  Put the pot on low heat. 
  3. Once the lamb shank is brown, put it into the sauce and cook the sauce on low for about 1- 1 1/2 hours. Make pasta and serve!

I personally like to put fried meatballs into my sauce and cook it for an hour.  I'll have to share my meatball recipe next!
